CURRENT REPORT BLOG Imo state chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has officially launched a campaign council consisting of 481 members. This council is tasked with formulating strategies and leading the campaign efforts for the upcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 11.

During the inauguration ceremony held in Owerri, Mr. Callistus Ihejiagwa, the state Chairman of the LP, stressed the critical importance of this campaign and urged the council members to take the matter seriously. He emphasized the “fierce urgency” of rescuing the state and urged them to become ambassadors for the LP, advocating for their candidate, Sen. Athan Achonu, and Peter Obi, throughout their respective communities.

Ihejiagwa described this duty as a call to service, emphasizing the need for selfless sacrifice for the betterment of Imo state. He urged the council to approach their responsibilities with pride, dignity, and selflessness, recognizing that they have been chosen by divine providence to free Imo from its current challenges. He also cautioned that failure to deliver on their promises to the people would not be forgiven, both by the electorate and future generations.

Addressing the issue of insecurity in the state, Ihejiagwa pointed out that it had compelled many residents to hold traditional events outside Imo due to the fear of potential attacks in their home state. He challenged the perception that the LP lacked substantial resources and infrastructure, asserting that those with ostentatious vehicles and political structures were often entangled in corruption. In contrast, LP, led by Peter Obi, aimed to eliminate corruption and uplift the common welfare of the people.
