Over 110,000 passports uncollected across Nigeria ? Immigration Service

CURRENT REPORT BLOG As of October 5, 2023, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reported that 112,351 passport booklets remain uncollected by applicants. Acting Comptroller General (CG) of the NIS, Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, announced this during a press conference held at the NIS headquarters in Abuja. She stated that the NIS had successfully cleared the backlog of 204,332 passport applications within the two-week deadline set by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Out of the total applications, 91,981 passport booklets have been picked up by applicants, leaving 112,351 booklets still awaiting collection. Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola urged applicants to retrieve their passports without incurring any additional charges, emphasizing that they are readily available.

The Acting CG also mentioned that the NIS and its partners have upgraded their facilities to meet the increasing demand for passports among Nigerians. Furthermore, they are actively working on automating the passport application process to enhance efficiency.
