In a video posted on his Instagram page, he disclosed his hospitalization over several weeks and the possibility of leg amputation if other treatments fail. Mr. Ibu earnestly requested prayers and financial support from Nigerians. His daughter mentioned his deteriorating condition and the depletion of their resources, appealing for assistance to enable him to seek better medical care abroad. Mr. Ibu’s wife also urged fellow Nigerians to come to his aid.
