CURRENT REPORT BLOG Former President Muhammadu Buhari, in his first interview since handing over the leadership to President Bola Tinubu, expressed that he gave his best during his eight-year tenure as Nigeria’s leader. Reflecting on his time in office, he stated that while God granted him the opportunity to serve his country, the judgment of whether his best was sufficient or not rests with the people.
Addressing the challenges of leading Nigerians, Buhari acknowledged the complexity of governing a populace that is keenly aware of its rights and often critical of those in authority. He described Nigerians as extremely difficult, noting that they closely monitor every step of their leaders, requiring constant effort to demonstrate competence.
Responding to a question about the possibility of his government being influenced by a cabal, Buhari acknowledged that it might have happened. However, he emphasised that the law should hold anyone accountable for breaking it and that walking away without consequences should not be allowed.
