CURRENT REPORT BLOG Users of the social media app X and Facebook have expressed sorrow, good wishes, and reflections on the passing of the late Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
According to sources, the governor passed away on Wednesday. A prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state mentioned that preparations were underway to inaugurate his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa. However, the state government has not commented on the matter as of the time of this report.
Aged 67, Akeredolu was reportedly battling cancer and had been seeking treatment in Germany. On December 13, 2023, The PUNCH reported that he was returning to Germany for further medical attention.
In a statement, the governor’s spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, announced that Akeredolu would transmit a letter to the state House of Assembly, officially transferring power to Aiyedatiwa.
