CURRENTREPORT: In a disturbing turn of events, terrorists, often referred to as bandits, have seized control of several communities in Niger State, Nigeria. These insurgents are not only imposing levies on residents but have also established toll gates, restricting the free movement of goods and persons.

The terrorists, operating in areas like Dogon-Dawa, Kurege, Kangarewa, Mangoro, and more, have essentially taken over these regions. Reports suggest that they are governing these areas according to their own rules, creating a grim reality for the residents.

Residents and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the affected communities are being subjected to forced levies. The terrorists have imposed restrictions on the movement of goods and people, demanding levies before granting permission. This has created an atmosphere of fear and coercion among the populace.

The situation has taken a severe toll on the economic activities of the region. Farmers, who are already grappling with the challenges of their profession, are now being forced to pay levies before harvesting their crops. Additionally, vehicles leaving the area are charged exorbitant amounts, with reports of combined fees reaching up to N1 million.

The plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) has worsened, as they are now required to pay levies to leave the area. This alarming development transforms the region into a territory ruled by the bandits, with residents feeling helpless and trapped.

While the affected communities await relief, the local authorities, including the police in Niger State, are under scrutiny. The police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, has promised to investigate the matter and provide updates on the efforts to address this crisis.

Conclusion
The takeover of communities in Niger State by terrorists, who are imposing levies and restricting movement, is a distressing situation that demands urgent attention. The affected residents and IDPs are caught in a web of fear and economic exploitation. As authorities investigate and respond, the hope is for swift and effective measures to alleviate the suffering of the people and restore normalcy to these troubled areas.
