CURRENT REPORT BLOG: The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to illegal occupants to vacate several key locations across the state. In a joint statement by the Commissioner for Transportation, Seun Osiyemi; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa; and Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi, a four-day ultimatum was given to clear out Obalende Bridge, Apongbon Bridge, Ijora Bridge, National Stadium, and illegal motor parks.
The statement emphasized that all shanties, dwellers, traders, squatters, and abandoned vehicles under the Obalende bridge must evacuate by Thursday afternoon, with enforcement actions commencing early Friday. Commercial vehicle operators in Obalende were particularly targeted, with a directive to relocate to designated parks to restore the aesthetic appeal of the area.
Government officials highlighted ongoing clean-up operations at Apongbon Under-Bridge, Ebute Ero, and other areas to ensure compliance with directives against trading or habitation under bridges and adjoining spaces.
The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) is slated to begin beautification and landscaping efforts post-evacuation, aiming to enhance the visual appeal of Obalende, Apongbon, and Ebute Ero under bridges.
At Ilubirin, a vital regeneration project, efforts are underway to facilitate water outflow, crucial for the rejuvenation of Isale Eko. Additionally, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has been tasked with arresting and prosecuting individuals found crossing highways, reinforcing the government’s commitment to environmental preservation and safety.
