The incident, fueled by the prevailing economic challenges gripping the nation, unfolded around 7 am on Sunday in the vicinity of Tasha area.
Eyewitness accounts reveal a scene of chaos and desperation as residents brazenly broke into the warehouse, seizing bags of maize and grain. Jaafar Aminu, a local resident, described how the looting persisted unabated until 9 am, with individuals from nearby Jiwa and Karmo joining in the plunder.
The ramifications of this unlawful act extended beyond the confines of the warehouse, causing a standstill on the Gwagwa-Karmo road, disrupting traffic flow towards Dei-Dei and Jabi areas. Christopher Agbo, another resident, lamented the audacity of the looters, noting that even barricades meant to secure the site were not spared.
Amid the pandemonium, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, offered reassurance, affirming that security personnel swiftly responded to the situation. “The situation is now under control,” she affirmed, signaling a concerted effort to restore order amidst the turmoil.
