This decision comes after a two-year period during which the UAE imposed a visa ban on Nigerians, leading to the automatic rejection of pending visa applications.
In a joint statement released by the governments of Nigeria and the UAE, titled ‘Resumption of Visa Services for Nigerians Travelling to the UAE,’ it was declared that the visa ban was officially lifted on March 4, 2024. This development underscores the successful outcome of extensive discussions between the two nations and highlights their shared commitment to strengthening ties, promoting cultural exchanges, and fostering opportunities for economic and social collaborations.
To ensure a seamless and efficient visa application process, the UAE has introduced an enhanced document verification procedure. Effective March 4, 2024, all Nigerian applicants for UAE visas are required to obtain a document verification number. This crucial step must be completed by visiting the dedicated online Document Verification Hub platform (https://documentverificationhub.com).
Saleem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, emphasized the importance of this updated procedure, stating, “We are committed to facilitating straightforward and expedited visa applications for Nigerians. The introduction of the Document Verification Number is designed to enhance the integrity of our application process and ensure prompt processing for all applicants.”
Once applicants have obtained the Document Verification Number, they can proceed with their visa applications through designated travel agents. The finalization of the process will take place at the Embassy of the UAE in either Abuja or Lagos.
