He disclosed that Governor Bassey Otu has sanctioned the establishment of a 30-member Anti Quackery Taskforce to tackle these issues head-on.
Dr. Ayuk emphasized the urgent need to curb the spread of unauthorized mortuaries and unscrupulous health services providers operating without adherence to standard protocols. He highlighted the risks posed by unapproved medical outreaches and the prevalence of quackery in the healthcare sector, leading to dire consequences for the populace.
The Anti Quackery Taskforce has been tasked with clamping down on all forms of unacceptable practices, including unauthorized training institutions and health service providers.
Governor Otu has underscored the importance of impartiality and urged the taskforce members to enforce the law without prejudice, ensuring accountability across the board.
To ensure effective implementation, the taskforce will collaborate with regulatory bodies within the state to enforce standard operating procedures in both public and private healthcare sectors. By working closely with security agencies and legal experts, the taskforce aims to bring perpetrators to justice and safeguard public health interests.
Led by Dr. Dan Abubakar as State Coordinator, the taskforce comprises individuals with diverse backgrounds in security, law, and healthcare. Dr. Abubakar expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged the team’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling their mandate for the overall benefit of Cross River State.
