Diphtheria Outbreak Claims Lives of Children in Kano State

CurrentReport Blog In a tragic turn of events, the Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State is grappling with a diphtheria outbreak, which has claimed the lives of no fewer than four children.

The severity of the situation was confirmed by Mr Tasiu Yahaya, the Information Officer of the local government, in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to Yahaya, 28 children have been infected with the disease, with cases reported in the towns of Kwarkiya, Kuru, Kunya, and Minjibir. The Interim Management Officer of the local government, Muhammad Yakubu Kunya, has sounded the alarm, calling on authorities and stakeholders to swiftly intervene to protect the health of the community.

In response to the outbreak, local authorities are urging traditional rulers and scholars to mobilize efforts in educating the community about preventive measures and to seek divine intervention through prayers. Furthermore, the Public Relations Officer of the Health Ministry, Mr Abdullahi Ibrahim, has indicated that the case has been referred to the Director for Public Health for thorough investigation and confirmation.
