CurrentReport Blog Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, a prominent governorship aspirant under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming primary election. Jegede, who previously contested in the 2016 and 2020 elections under the PDP banner, cited his commitment to addressing the party’s challenges as the driving force behind his decision.

Speaking in Akure on Thursday, Jegede emphasized his dedication to making necessary sacrifices to provide solutions to the party’s issues. He expressed his belief that it was time to reconsider the approach to ensure equitable representation, equity, and fair play, especially concerning the governorship.

One of the pivotal points Jegede highlighted was the party’s lack of receptiveness to zoning, as evidenced by the election of successive governors solely based on merit rather than geographical considerations. He emphasized the need for a decision on whether to repeat past processes or allow a new array of competent and distinguished governorship aspirants to vie for the position.
