Until his passing, Akintelure had been vocal about the direct and indirect threats he faced, expressing hope that the situation would improve with time. However, these hopes were dashed as the threats escalated, ultimately posing a serious risk to his life.

In a statement made on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure emphasized his unwavering commitment to standing up for justice and righteousness, despite the challenges he encountered. He urged for unity and peace, highlighting the importance of collective strength in overcoming differences.

Akintelure’s involvement in politics was notable, having previously run as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, who currently serves as the incumbent governor of Ondo State. Their bid was against Olusegun Mimiko, the Labour Party flagbearer who emerged victorious in the election.

Prior to his gubernatorial aspirations, Akintelure contested in the senatorial election under the APC banner, albeit facing defeat against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. Outside of politics, he was recognized as a medical doctor, hailing from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This unfortunate event occurs amidst the buildup to the Ondo governorship election, adding a somber note to the already intense political atmosphere. As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated leader, attention turns to the implications this may have on the forthcoming election and the broader political landscape of Ondo State.
