CurrentReport Blog In a recent address at the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony in Abuja, Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasized the need for a thorough cleansing of the Nigerian Police Force. He commended the efforts of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and urged for collaborative action in enhancing the force’s effectiveness amidst ongoing challenges.

Akpabio applauded the initiative of the Nigeria Police Force in organizing the awards ceremony, highlighting its importance in acknowledging the dedication and bravery of individual officers. However, amidst celebrations, he underscored the pressing need to address internal ethical standards, restore professionalism, and intensify the fight against corruption within the force.

Expressing full support from the National Assembly, Akpabio reiterated the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders in fortifying the police force against evolving criminal threats. He emphasized the necessity for collective effort in overcoming challenges and fostering a safer environment for all Nigerians.

“I commend the Police for this maiden effort in organizing this awards ceremony. It is a testament to IGP Egbetokun’s commitment to giving honour to whom it is due.

“By recognising the gallant, selfless and patriotic contributions of individual officers, will not only motivate them for higher performance but also reinforce the new policing agenda of the Force.

“This agenda focuses on internal ethical regeneration, restoration of professional standards and the enhancement of the anti-corruption drive.

“However, let us not ignore the challenges faced by the Police in Nigeria. The ever-evolving landscape of crime and the increasing sophistication of criminal gangs pose significant obstacles,” he stated.
