CurrentReport Blog Renowned music executive Paul Okoye, better known as Paul O, has sent ripples through the Afrobeats industry with his prediction that 2024 will present significant challenges for artists in the genre.

Paul O took to his Insta stories to express his concerns, highlighting that aside from Burna Boy and Davido, many Afrobeats artists are facing difficulties in selling tickets for their shows. He attributed this struggle to either overpriced tickets or a lack of demand, pointing to a potential repeat of the challenges faced by Reggae musicians in the past.

“2024 will be a tough year for Afrobeat!!! Apart from 2 artists this year, Burnaboy and Davido, they did a few shows,” Paul O remarked. “Others are in trouble, either they are overpriced or tickets are not selling.”

The seasoned show promoter urged artists to reconsider their pricing strategies, emphasizing the importance of learning from history to avoid a similar fate as Reggae musicians. He encouraged artists to reflect on their performance schedules, questioning the number of shows they were able to secure in the current year.
