CurrentReport Blog In a significant affirmation of the democratic process, Jonathan Obuebite, the former Commissioner of Education in Bayelsa State, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Governor Douye Diri and his Deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The congratulations follow their victory at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 11, 2023, Governorship election, had contested Governor Diri’s declaration as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a joint statement signed by Jonathan Obuebite and his wife, Anne Obuebite, the couple celebrated the tribunal’s decision, describing it as a triumph of justice and the people’s will. The statement emphasized that the verdict was well deserved and underscored the integrity of the electoral process.

“Today, justice has been served, and your mandate and the decision of our people have been reaffirmed,” the statement read. “Your perseverance and commitment to the democratic process have paid off, and the people of Bayelsa State have been vindicated.”

Obuebite highlighted that this victory is not merely a personal triumph for Governor Diri but a testament to the power of the electorate’s voice. “This victory is a testament to the power of the people’s will. Your love for peace, dedication to serving the public interest, and upholding the rule of law have been upheld. We celebrate this significant milestone with you.”

He further expressed hope that this victory would serve as an inspiration for Governor Diri and his administration to continue working diligently for the progress of Bayelsa State and the nation. “May this victory inspire you to continue working tirelessly for the betterment of our state and the nation at large. Your leadership qualities and vision are crucial in shaping a brighter future for all.”

Concluding the statement, Obuebite reiterated his congratulations, viewing the tribunal’s ruling as a stepping stone towards even greater development for Bayelsa State. “Once again, congratulations on this resounding victory! May it be a stepping stone to even greater development.”
