CurrentReport Blog The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has firmly refuted reports suggesting that the 10th Senate is proposing the procurement of new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Akpabio dismissed these claims as baseless rumors.

The statement came in response to recent media reports that alleged Akpabio had endorsed the idea of acquiring new planes for the President and Vice President, despite widespread economic hardship among Nigerians. These reports have been labeled as the work of “propagandists and fifth columnists” by the Senate President.

Akpabio addressed these allegations while in Maiduguri, where he led a Senate delegation on a condolence visit to Senator Tahir Monguno following the passing of his father. He used the occasion to clarify the Senate’s position and reiterate its commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through effective legislation.

“I want to dispel the rumour that you are hearing that the Senate President said he will buy a new plane for the President and his Vice, irrespective of the fact that Nigerians are hungry or whatever. I never said that,” Akpabio asserted. “I was actually in Zanzibar, Tanzania, when these rumors started. It is the handiwork of propagandists and fifth columnists who never see anything good in what we are doing.”

Akpabio emphasized that the Senate’s priority is to foster policies that promote the prosperity and security of Nigeria. He expressed his contentment with the improved security situation in Borno State and urged citizens to support and pray for the current administration.

“I am happy to see that peace has returned to Borno, as a result of the hard work of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I want to tell the good people of Borno to continue to support the administration,” Akpabio stated.

The Senate President concluded by reassuring Nigerians that the combined leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima is dedicated to bringing wealth and prosperity to the nation. He called for patience and faith in the government’s efforts to address the challenges facing the country.
