CurrentReport Blog The House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on the Abuja Investment Company Limited (AICL) to collaborate exclusively with capable and willing partners in managing infrastructure within the territory. This directive was given during an interactive session led by Committee Chairman Muktar Betara, who emphasized the importance of effective partnerships for improved infrastructure and revenue generation.
Betara expressed disappointment with the current state of infrastructure management in the FCT but conveyed optimism with the appointment of new hands by the minister. He advised, “I will advise you, anybody that you’re not ready to work with, remove the person so that you can work well. The Committee is ready to support you and support FCT in general.”
Timilehin Adelegbe, a committee member and lawmaker from Ondo State, urged AICL to conduct a thorough audit of staff, emphasizing the importance of removing those hindering progress. He stated, “What we need as a House is to encourage you and also urge you to do a holistic audit of staff who may be dragging you back which is very very important.”
Another committee member, Regina Akume (APC, Benue), called on the AICL team to reject the mindset of neglecting government business. She stressed, “Before, we see a spirit of ‘it is not my problem, it’s not my business, it’s government’s business’; government is for all of us, so put all the broken pieces together. There’s so much laxity and it’s not right.”
In response, AICL’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Moreen Tamuno, acknowledged the challenges and highlighted efforts to address revenue leakages. She assured that under her leadership, significant improvements would be made. “We are definitely building bridges, we are looking at how to reposition the FCT and we are making progress,” Dr. Tamuno said.
