Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, conducted an inspection of the game’s facilities today, expressing confidence in the state’s readiness to host the event. During his tour of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, the Governor examined key facilities including the swimming pool, shooting range, and Indoor Sports Hall, accompanied by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, and top officials from the State Sports Commission.

Speaking to the media, Governor Oborevwori expressed optimism about the success of the games, stating:
“We are ready for hosting the National Youth Games. You know, tomorrow is the opening ceremony. I am sure that this year will be better than last year.”

The Governor emphasized the positive outcomes of the National Youth Games in discovering young talents, highlighting the success of athletes like Favour Ofili, who excelled at the Paris Olympics.
“There is a good result from hosting these games because, as you can see from the last Olympics in Paris, Favour Ofili did very well even though she did not win a medal. She is a product of these games. So, in this year’s games, we are looking for a talent better than Ofili,” Oborevwori added.

The 8th National Youth Games is expected to be a platform for nurturing future Olympic champions, as athletes from across the country compete in various sports. The games will run for several days, with Delta State aiming to set a new standard in the event’s history.
