CurrentReport Blog In a recent announcement, the UK government now mandates that foreign nationals intending to study in the country must provide proof of funds amounting to at least £13,348 in savings before applying for a student visa.

According to the Home Office, prospective students planning to study in London must demonstrate the ability to cover living expenses of £1,483 per month, while those studying outside of London are required to show £1,136 per month. This represents an increase from the previous rates, which stood at £1,334 for London and £1,023 for other UK cities.

The Home Office explained that this adjustment is aimed at aligning the financial requirements for international students with the revised maintenance loans available to domestic students. The new rule ensures that both foreign and local students have sufficient funds to cover their living expenses.

The government highlighted that the rise in required funds is essential to keep pace with the increasing cost of living in the UK.

These changes will come into effect for students arriving in the UK on or after January 2, 2025.
