CurrentReport Blog In the wake of the devastating floods in Maiduguri and surrounding areas, Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Lawal Yusuf, has imposed a restriction on movement over the collapsed Lagos Bridge. The decision comes as part of ongoing rescue and safety measures in the flood-affected regions.
The Commissioner, accompanied by a team of officials, inspected the collapsed bridge on Saturday to assess the extent of the damage and strategize on necessary mitigation efforts.
SP Ahmed Wakil, the Supervising Police Public Relations Officer for the North-East, issued a statement on Saturday revealing that the restriction was based on a technical evaluation by experts. Their assessment indicated that the remaining section of the bridge could be further compromised by heavy vehicular or pedestrian traffic, posing a grave risk to public safety.
“The commissioner directed officers and personnel to conduct their duties with professionalism while ensuring that citizens’ fundamental rights are respected,” said SP Wakil.
CP Muhammed Lawal Yusuf extended his sympathies to those affected by the flood disaster and urged the public to cooperate with authorities during this difficult time, emphasizing that the safety of lives and property remains a top priority.
As rescue operations continue, the police are calling for patience and caution from the public, especially around flood-prone areas and weakened infrastructure like the Lagos Bridge.
