CurrentReport Blog Parents of students at Oriwu Model College in Ikorodu, Lagos State, staged a peaceful protest on Sunday against the sudden increase in boarding fees by the state government. The fees, which previously stood at N35,000, have now been raised to N100,000, causing frustration amidst the ongoing economic hardship in the country.

The protest took place at the school gate, where parents demanded an immediate reversal of the fee hike. Mr. Kazeem Oladuni, Chairman of the Parents Forum Association (PFA) at Oriwu College, urged the Lagos State Ministry of Education to revert to the previous fee structure to allow their children to resume school without financial strain.

“Our children were supposed to resume on September 9, but we received a memo that one week had been added, which expired today, September 15. To our surprise, another memo came out on September 13, indicating that the boarding fees have been increased from N35,000 to N100,000,” Oladuni explained.

Following a meeting with the Lagos State Coordinator of the PFA, parents collectively expressed their disapproval of the new fees, deeming them unreasonable given the financial difficulties facing many families in Nigeria.
