CurrentReport Blog Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed optimism that the various challenges confronting Nigeria will soon be resolved, urging the nation’s youth to face the future with confidence. The governor made this statement while addressing members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during a passing out parade, where his daughter was among the graduating corps members.
In his speech, Makinde emphasized that despite the hurdles Nigeria faces, the country has the potential to become great. He encouraged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the mandatory national service to build a solid foundation for their future careers and personal lives, urging them not to take the experience lightly.
Reflecting on his own youth service experience, Makinde shared how the program shaped his life, including meeting his life partner during the service 34 years ago. He advised the corps members to stay focused and responsible, noting that some may also meet their future life partners during the program.
“I did this exactly 34 years ago when some of you were not yet born. But I want to tell you that you are starting a journey that will take some of you to the peak of your ambitions,” Makinde said, highlighting how unpredictable the future can be, sharing that he never imagined he would one day become a governor.
In a personal note, the governor mentioned his daughter’s participation in the program, which, he noted, made the experience particularly meaningful. He humorously recounted how she initially wanted to stay at the camp for just one night, but ended up staying for the full three weeks.
Governor Makinde’s words served as a reminder to the youth that despite the nation’s current struggles, perseverance and dedication can lead to success, and that the NYSC program is a valuable stepping stone toward achieving their ambitions.
