CurrentReport Blog The Federal Government is taking significant steps to reduce irregular migration by Nigerians through policies aimed at boosting the economy and creating employment opportunities. This was revealed by Senator Abubakar Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, during the Anti-Migration Summit organized by the Blacks Ancestral Native Communities (BANC) on Thursday in Abuja.
Bagudu emphasized that irregular migration often leads to unintended negative consequences, including human trafficking and drug peddling. He noted that the government recognizes the need to elevate Nigeria’s economy to a level that supports its leadership position in Africa and curbs forced migration.
“A two trillion-dollar economy will help address issues like irregular migration and the ‘Japa’ syndrome,” Bagudu stated. He clarified that the government is not seeking to stop migration but wants Nigerians to migrate out of choice, not necessity.
Bagudu also highlighted that the current administration is focused on implementing policies and programs designed to strengthen the economy and create jobs, ensuring that migration becomes an option rather than a compulsion. These measures are part of Nigeria’s broader aspiration to achieve higher economic goals and reduce the push factors driving irregular migration.
