CurrentReport Blog A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama has issued a public summons against Yahaya Bello, the immediate past governor of Kogi State, ordering him to appear in court to answer a fresh 16-count charge. The summons, issued by Justice Maryanne Anenih, mandates Bello to attend court on October 24 for his arraignment alongside two other defendants.
This action follows an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which claimed it had been unable to serve Bello with the charges since they were filed on September 24. The EFCC accused the ex-governor and two others, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, of a criminal breach of trust amounting to N110.4 billion.
In her ruling on Thursday, Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to publish the summons in a widely circulated newspaper and paste copies at Bello’s last known address, as well as in conspicuous places within the court premises. Bello’s absence had earlier stalled the arraignment, which was scheduled for the same day.
