CurrentReport Blog The Simon Ekpa-led Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) has announced that they have commenced discussions with the United States Government regarding Biafra’s liberation. Simon Ekpa disclosed this through his official X handle on Monday, revealing that consultations with U.S. Congress members have gained momentum in addressing the long-standing struggle for Biafran self-determination.

Ekpa emphasized that the movement for Biafra is driven by historical grievances, economic disparity, and socio-political marginalization faced by the Biafran people within Nigeria. He claimed that over 50 million Igbos participated in the Biafra referendum, demonstrating their support for the call for self-rule and independence.

“The call for Biafra self-determination is deeply rooted in historical grievances, economic disparity, and socio-political marginalization. Our struggle has become a struggle for survival, peace, unity, equity, and progress,” Ekpa stated.

He further highlighted BRGIE’s recent meetings with key members of the U.S. Congress, including Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, and Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul. According to Ekpa, these discussions have introduced Biafra’s cause to U.S. lawmakers, many of whom were previously unfamiliar with the issue.

“For most members of Congress, this was the first time the Biafra issue had been presented to them. The reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with many members pledging their support for the Biafra cause,” Ekpa explained.

Ekpa assured Biafrans that BRGIE’s efforts on the global stage mark a significant shift in the movement’s trajectory. He noted that ongoing initiatives, which are being developed in collaboration with U.S. officials, would be disclosed at the appropriate time.
