CurrentReport Blog The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, has called on Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to prioritize delivering on his campaign promises for the benefit of the people of the state.
Senator Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the Edo State governorship election held on September 21, 2024. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that he secured 291,667 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,566 votes.
During a courtesy visit to the Oba’s palace, Senator Okpebholo, along with his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, presented their certificates of return to the monarch. Oba Ewuare II expressed his gratitude to God for the peaceful conduct of the election and emphasized the importance of keeping promises made to the electorate, which he said is the cornerstone of good governance.
“We thank God Almighty for the peaceful election. We thank God for hearing our prayers. Even now, we are still fasting and praying for peace and tranquility in the state,” the monarch said. He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a smooth election process.
The Oba reassured the governor-elect that his palace remains open for guidance at any time. “This palace is open to you anytime; whether 1 a.m. or 2 a.m., you can come, and I will see you,” he assured.
The governor-elect was accompanied by prominent APC leaders, including former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Deputy Governor-elect Dennis Idahosa, APC State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, and other party stalwarts.
