APC Councillorship Candidate, Adeleke Adeyinka, Shot Dead in Abeokuta

CurrentReport Blog In a tragic incident on Saturday, Adeleke Adeyinka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, was brutally murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. The incident took place around 2 p.m. in the Jide Jones area of Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Witnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a tinted car, with one of them stepping out to shoot Adeyinka at close range. The attackers then smashed his head, killing him on the spot. A viral video circulating online showed the victim lying in a pool of his blood.

A local source, who chose to remain anonymous, stated, “The killing happened around 2 p.m., and it took everyone by surprise. The entire area is tense now, and shops have been closed down as people are afraid.”

Adeyinka, a former youth leader of Abeokuta South Local Government, was a candidate for Councilor in Ward 15 for the upcoming November 16 local government elections. He was also a transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta.

The Ogun All Progressives Congress Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned the killing. In a statement signed by the youth leader of Abeokuta South, Comrade Kabir Odedairo, and its PRO, Timothy Odedina, the forum described the murder as “senseless and horrific.”

“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving,” the statement read. The forum called for immediate law enforcement intervention and urged the police to increase security in the area.

Despite the public outcry, the Ogun police command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that the command was not yet aware of the situation.
