Speaking at St. Charles Borromeo College of Nursing and Midwifery in Onitsha on Monday, Obi emphasized that nurses and other professionals should not be prevented from traveling abroad.
Obi, who made a financial donation to the institution, highlighted the importance of education and health as key sectors that will drive future growth. He urged Nigerian leaders to focus on training more professionals, rather than restricting those seeking opportunities outside the country.
“Nigeria has over 200 million people, and there’s no need to stop anyone from traveling. Instead, we should invest in knowledge and health, as they are the currencies for the future,” Obi said.
He also noted that diaspora remittances can be a significant source of revenue for Nigeria. “Let those who want to go, go, and those who wish to stay, stay. Diaspora remittance is also a form of revenue generation,” he added.
Obi emphasized the importance of investing in young professionals, particularly in the healthcare sector, which he described as a lucrative and in-demand field globally. He reiterated his commitment to supporting educational institutions across the country, stating that his donations are part of a broader effort to improve the future of Nigerian youths.
“I will be in the College of Nursing in Anyingba tomorrow to assist them in getting accreditation. This is how we can build a better future for our country,” Obi said.
His remarks reflect a growing debate in Nigeria about the brain drain of skilled professionals, as many leave the country in search of better opportunities abroad.
