NUJ FCT Mourns Passing of Veteran Journalist Walter Ukaegbu at 67

CurrentReport Blog The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, is mourning the loss of its former Internal Auditor, Mr. Walter Ukaegbu, who passed away on August 29, 2024, at the age of 67 following a prolonged illness. Ukaegbu, a seasoned journalist, had an extensive career covering business, maritime, transport, and aviation beats for prominent national newspapers, including Sun Newspapers.

Ukaegbu, originally from Amokwe Item in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, was celebrated by the NUJ as a “loving father, doting comrade, inspiring professional and a worthy example to his community.” In a statement by the FCT Council of NUJ’s Secretary, Ochiaka Ugwu, the NUJ expressed condolences to his family, highlighting Ukaegbu’s dedication as a “devoted husband, caring father, and committed community leader.”

The funeral arrangements released by Ukaegbu’s family include a Service of Songs on November 8, 2024, at Christ Methodist Cathedral, Nyanya, Abuja. His final resting place will be at his hometown in Amokai, Amokwe Item, Abia State, with interment scheduled for November 15, 2024.

Ukaegbu is survived by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ifeyinwa Ukaegbu, his son, Jesse Chidubem Ukaegbu, his daughter, Favour Amarachukwu Ukaegbu, and extended family members. The NUJ, alongside family and friends, will remember Ukaegbu for his unwavering dedication to journalism and service to his community.
