Ogun State Government Suspends Teacher After Alleged Beating Leads to Student’s Death

CurrentReport Blog The Ogun State Government has suspended a teacher from Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, over allegations of corporal punishment that reportedly resulted in the death of Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced the suspension following the incident, which occurred on Friday.

Authorities have also taken swift action by arresting the teacher, while the school’s principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, faces a formal query for allowing corporal punishment in violation of state regulations. The principal was given 24 hours to provide a written explanation regarding her actions and justify why disciplinary measures should not be enforced.

In a show of support, a condolence letter from the Ministry was delivered to the grieving family, assuring them that justice would be pursued. Signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, the letter expressed deep sympathy, describing Arijo as an exceptional student who will be greatly missed by his peers, teachers, and the wider community.

The government expressed its commitment to ensuring that schools adhere strictly to state regulations, reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy for corporal punishment.
