Ogun State Government Disburses N2.6 Billion Gratuity to Retired Teachers and Local Government Staff

CurrentReport Blog The Ogun State Government has announced the disbursement of N2.6 billion in gratuity payments to retired public primary school teachers and local government employees as part of the 4th quarter payouts for 2024. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, was disclosed by Olufisan Osiyale, Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, during a press briefing in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Osiyale emphasized that this gesture reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to supporting senior citizens, particularly in light of current economic challenges. “We are fortunate to have Governor Abiodun, who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the welfare of our senior citizens,” he stated. “This N2.6 billion gratuity for retired local government employees and public primary school teachers ensures that those who served diligently are properly cared for in retirement.”

The payout is aimed at providing financial relief and ensuring the well-being of Ogun State’s retirees. Osiyale also urged beneficiaries to maintain a healthy and moderate lifestyle, adding that their support and prayers would be valuable in acknowledging the governor’s continued support.

Mrs. Caroline Oguntola, Chairperson of the Retired Primary School Teachers Association of Nigeria (REPSTAN), praised Governor Abiodun’s commitment to retirees, noting improvements in monthly pensions, gratuity payments, and the sale of subsidized rice to retirees. She encouraged the governor to continue his positive impact on the welfare of retirees across the state.
