CurrentRport Blog England-born defender Gabriel Osho has confirmed his international commitment to Nigeria, the homeland of his parents, who were both born in Lagos. Osho, currently playing for French club Auxerre, landed in Abidjan on Monday to join the Nigerian squad ahead of a potential debut in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic on Thursday.
The 26-year-old, born and raised in Reading, England, is eligible to represent Nigeria through his Nigerian-born parents. Despite holding dual nationality, Osho has prioritized playing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles over England’s Three Lions.
Osho’s first call-up came in March 2024 following impressive performances with Luton Town in the English Premier League. Now with Auxerre, he is expected to add defensive strength to the Nigerian national team as they aim for success in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
In an interview with the Super Eagles media team, Osho expressed pride in his Nigerian heritage: “Both my parents were born in Lagos. I am happy to be here,” he said. His commitment comes as part of a growing trend of foreign-born players choosing Nigeria, adding depth to the Super Eagles squad as they compete on the African stage.
