CurrentReport Blog Nigeria’s Super Eagles held the Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw on Thursday in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier in Abidjan, cementing their place at the top of Group D. Despite a strong performance from Benin, Nigeria showcased their resilience as they prepare for the upcoming AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Benin Republic took an early lead in the first half, with Mohamed Tijani finding the net for Gernot Rohr’s side. However, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen stepped up in the second half to score the equalizer, maintaining the Super Eagles’ unbeaten record in the group.

With this result, Nigeria remains at the top of Group D, boasting 11 points from five matches. Benin trails in second place with 7 points, while Rwanda and Libya sit third and fourth with 5 and 4 points, respectively.

The Super Eagles have already qualified for AFCON 2025 in Morocco. They will conclude their group stage journey on Monday with a fixture against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, aiming to finish strong as they set their sights on the tournament.
