CurrentReport Blog Ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State, three gubernatorial candidates have withdrawn from the race, endorsing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, confirmed that Dr. Ajibola Falaye of the Accord Party, Hon. Jenyo Ataunko of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Olaide Ibrahim of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have stepped down to support the governor.
In a statement, Dr. Falaye explained the endorsement was based on Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to public service and his track record of achievements in office. Falaye highlighted the governor’s commitment to security, pointing out that Ondo State has experienced relative peace under his leadership. Additionally, Falaye praised the governor’s infrastructural developments and inclusivity, emphasizing shared progressive values between APC and their respective parties.
“We see the infrastructural development that has taken place even within this short period,” Falaye said. “This Saturday, we will turn our commitment into votes for continuity in Ondo State.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, describing the move as an act of statesmanship. “I didn’t call for this, but I am grateful that my colleagues in the race have voluntarily identified with my mandate,” he said, urging the supporters of the Accord Party, NRM, and ADC to come out in full force on election day.
The endorsement event also saw the presence of Benue Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia and campaign Director General Hon. Abiola Makinde, who joined Aiyedatiwa in welcoming the candidates.
