The PDP emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address the issue, urging the government to focus on practical solutions.
This statement follows the Abia State government’s earlier accusation that “unpatriotic politicians” were responsible for the wave of violence and crime since May. In a response issued on Monday by Eric Ikwuagwu, the PDP Publicity Secretary, the party described the allegations as divisive and unhelpful.
The PDP urged the government to work closely with security agencies and provide evidence to help apprehend and prosecute those responsible for recent violent crimes, instead of creating unnecessary tension.
“Playing politics with the lives of Abians is not only counterproductive but also dangerous,” the statement read.
The PDP highlighted the importance of comprehensive strategies to combat insecurity. According to the party, addressing the security challenges in Abia requires more than public declarations and should involve concrete action plans.
“We want to remind the current administration that combating insecurity demands comprehensive strategies beyond mere declarations,” the PDP stated.
The PDP reiterated its constitutional role as an opposition party, which includes offering constructive criticism and presenting alternative perspectives. It advised the government to avoid pointing fingers at the opposition without evidence, stating that such accusations could further destabilize the state.
