CurrentReport Blog Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, has been appointed as the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State.
Ugochinyere, who is currently the highest-ranking PDP official elected in Imo State, was unanimously endorsed by the PDP chairmen across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state over the weekend.
In a statement signed by the Coordinating Chairman of the 27 Imo PDP LGA Chairmen Forum, the party leaders praised Ugochinyere’s leadership qualities and his commitment to upholding PDP’s values.
“We the leaders of PDP in Imo state, after wide consultations and deep reflection on the state of our party in the state and the country, resolved to appoint Hon. Barr. Ikenga Ugochinyere as our leader,” the statement read.
The party leaders emphasized Ugochinyere’s role in revitalizing the PDP in the state, urging stakeholders to support him as he works to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.
“Judging from his ingenuity, we are confident in his ability to be the rallying point of PDP in Imo State for the party to rebound ahead of future polls,” they added.
The PDP leaders also called for the immediate removal of the party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, and national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu. According to them, the continued tenure of both officials is detrimental to the party’s progress.
“While passing a vote of confidence on Hon. Barr. Ikenga Ugochinyere as our leader, we insist that the acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, and national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, should be removed without further delay,” the statement said.
As the new leader of the PDP in Imo State, Ugochinyere is expected to spearhead efforts to rebuild the party at both state and national levels. His leadership comes at a critical time, as the PDP works to reposition itself as a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
With his appointment, PDP stakeholders are optimistic about the party’s prospects in Imo State and beyond, urging all members to rally around Ugochinyere for collective success.
