CurrentReport Blog Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to collaborate with Power Africa to achieve his administration’s goal of providing 24/7 affordable and reliable electricity for residents, businesses, and industries.
The governor held discussions with Power Africa representatives during the Africa Investment Forum in Rabat, Morocco. Power Africa is a U.S. government-led initiative focused on expanding access to electricity across Sub-Saharan Africa through investments and public-private partnerships.
Enhancing Ogun State’s Energy Infrastructure
Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of transforming the state’s energy infrastructure, leveraging partnerships to improve energy generation, transmission, and distribution.
“Ogun State is committed to achieving energy self-sufficiency through innovative gas-to-power projects and renewable energy solutions,” he said.
The collaboration will also strengthen the capacity of the newly established Ministry of Energy and attract investments to foster sustainable development.
Strategic Partnerships in Mining and Hydrocarbons
In addition to the Power Africa discussions, Governor Abiodun met with the CEO of Morocco’s Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines to explore opportunities in the mining and hydrocarbon sectors. Ogun State, recently recognized as a frontier state by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), aims to unlock its vast mineral and hydrocarbon potential.
Broader Development Goals
The governor also highlighted plans to:
- Attract investments in renewable energy, livestock value addition, and timber processing.
- Extend the Lagos red and blue rail lines into Ogun State.
- Establish an automotive assembly plant to drive industrial growth.
