CurrentReport Blog Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged workers to appreciate God and President Bola Tinubu for the recently implemented minimum wage increment. Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with workers, the governor credited the reforms initiated by President Tinubu for enabling states like Ekiti to meet the financial demands of the new wage structure.
“But for the President’s reforms, which gave more money to states, a number of state governments would not have been able to pay the minimum wage,” Governor Oyebanji stated. “Honestly, I don’t think you should thank me. We have not done anything unusual. You worked hard and got paid by the government. Thank God, and thank President Bola Tinubu also. What you are seeing today are the outcomes of the reforms he embarked on.”
The governor’s remarks came as a response to workers, who, accompanied by some permanent secretaries, visited his office to express their gratitude for his administration’s efforts in implementing the wage increase.
The permanent secretaries commended Governor Oyebanji for extending the wage increment to all categories of workers, highlighting his commitment to equitable governance. “Including us in the new minimum wage structure demonstrates the governor’s dedication to fairness and inclusivity,” one of the secretaries noted.
This wage adjustment reflects the federal government’s broader economic reforms aimed at improving the welfare of workers across Nigeria. As the new minimum wage takes effect, Ekiti State remains one of the first to implement it, solidifying Governor Oyebanji’s reputation for prioritizing workers’ welfare.
