CurrentReport Blog The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area 1 Command, has announced the seizure of smuggled goods worth N229,112,424 in Duty Paid Value (DPV) within a seven-day operation across various locations in Ogun State.
The announcement was made by the new Area Comptroller, Mr. Ahmadu Shuaibu, during a press briefing on Thursday in Idiroko, Ogun. According to Shuaibu, the seizures were made possible through intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance, and collaboration with patriotic Nigerians.
The confiscated goods were intercepted in smuggling hotspots, including Idi-Iroko, Ilaro, All-around Axis, Obada Oko, Abule Kazeem-Abeokuta Axis, and Imeko-Afon.
“Our operatives remain resolute in dismantling the smuggling networks that undermine our economy, endanger lives, and hinder local industries,” Shuaibu stated. “In addition, the command remains vigilant and will continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to rid our society of this menace.”
Breakdown of Seized Items:
- 2,169 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice
- 1,128 parcels of cannabis weighing 1,109kg
- 21 bales and two sacks of used clothing
- 166 pieces of pneumatic tyres
- 4,360 cartons of imported shoes
- 250 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)
- 20 vehicles used for smuggling and one foreign-used 2012 Toyota Highlander SUV
Threat to Nigeria’s Economy and Security
The Comptroller highlighted that smuggled goods pose significant threats to Nigeria’s economy by undermining local industries and jeopardizing public safety. He reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to eradicating smuggling and protecting Nigeria’s borders.
