The decision was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by the school’s Registrar, Dr. John David, who stated that the closure comes after consultations with relevant agencies and stakeholders.
JOSTUM Declares Mid-Semester Break in Solidarity
Dr. David explained that the university declared a mid-semester break as a sign of solidarity with students, victims, and their families affected by the abduction. Additionally, the institution has postponed an inaugural lecture that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
“The public is urged to remain calm as security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” Dr. David assured.
Conflicting Reports on Number of Kidnapped Students
Reports indicate that four female students of JOSTUM were kidnapped by unknown gunmen, but one of the victims managed to escape.
However, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of only two students, stating that efforts are underway to secure their release.
