Police Confirm Escape of Two Key Suspects
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were among 11 individuals being held over the lawmaker’s abduction and murder. They reportedly escaped while assisting operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in tracking down Tochukwu Akolisa, a suspected buyer of stolen vehicles and valuables linked to the case.
The police assured the public that all necessary security measures were being taken to re-arrest the fleeing suspects and bring all perpetrators to justice.
Background: The Murder of Justice Azuka
The late Justice Azuka, a prominent Anambra lawmaker, was kidnapped by gunmen on December 24, 2024, while returning home at Ugwunapampa Road, Inland Town, Onitsha. His lifeless body was later discovered on the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.
Police Vow to Re-Arrest Fleeing Suspects
SP Ikenga emphasized that the Anambra Police Command remains committed to transparency and will continue updating residents on security developments in the state.
“The command hereby reiterates that, among other necessary security measures to improve safety in the state, it shall not rest until the fleeing suspects are re-arrested and all those involved brought to book.”
The police also urged caution among individuals and groups when making public statements about the case to avoid escalating tensions.
