CurrentReport Blog Former England defender Michael Dawson has urged Arsenal to make a move for Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich if he becomes available on a free transfer this summer. As Arsenal prepares to strengthen its squad for next season’s Premier League title challenge, Kimmich’s potential free agency could provide the perfect opportunity to boost their midfield.
Arsenal, under manager Mikel Arteta, are looking to bolster their squad after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, which severely impacted their hopes of winning the Premier League this season. With the Gunners keen on competing with Liverpool for the top spot next year, securing high-quality reinforcements is a priority.
Dawson, speaking on Sky Sports, acknowledged Kimmich’s impressive track record at Bayern Munich, noting his experience and ability to perform at the top level for over a decade. The 30-year-old’s contract with the German giants is nearing its end, and it seems unlikely that Bayern will extend his stay. Dawson believes Kimmich’s potential availability could be an ideal opportunity for Arsenal.
“He [Joshua Kimmich] is definitely not the whole answer for Arsenal,” Dawson said, but emphasized the midfielder’s quality and experience. “He is a very, very good player. He has done it for a long time in Germany. His contract is coming to an end, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be renewed.”
Arsenal’s interest in Kimmich is further fueled by uncertainty over the future of key midfielders like Jorginho and Thomas Partey. With possible exits for both players, Dawson believes Kimmich would be an excellent addition to provide stability and leadership in the middle of the park.
“If he is a free agent, then you get the experience and the quality that he possesses, and it’s a no-brainer,” Dawson added.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Kimmich’s potential move could play a pivotal role in Arsenal’s quest to compete for the Premier League title in the 2025/2026 season. If the German international becomes available on a free transfer, it may be the perfect opportunity for the Gunners to secure one of Europe’s most accomplished midfielders.
