CurrentReport Blog Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has voiced his concerns over the performance of striker Rasmus Højlund, following the club’s disappointing FA Cup exit to Fulham on Sunday. The 22-year-old Denmark international, who joined United from Atalanta for £72 million in 2023, has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford, scoring just two Premier League goals this season.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand expressed his frustration with the team’s current struggles, particularly with Højlund’s form. “That result killed me,” Ferdinand said, referring to Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham. “I was on the floor. This United side can’t create chances, they can’t score goals. It’s a joke.”

Højlund, who featured in the FA Cup match, was replaced by teenager Chido Obi-Martin in the second half. Ferdinand highlighted the excitement surrounding Obi-Martin’s brief appearance, suggesting that the young forward’s energy and contributions were a stark contrast to Højlund’s recent performances.

“Because Højlund has been so off it and so bad recently, when you saw that kid [Obi-Martin] come on, everyone got excited with the little things,” Ferdinand added.

Despite the high expectations surrounding his arrival, Højlund’s struggles to justify his hefty price tag have raised questions about his future at the club. As Manchester United continue to face challenges under manager Ruben Amorim, fans will be hoping for improvements in both Højlund’s individual performances and the team’s overall attacking play.

With the Red Devils’ current form under scrutiny, the pressure is on for Højlund and his teammates to deliver consistent performances in the coming weeks.
