APC Is Dead; I Know People Who Paid For Ministerial Appointments Under Tinubu Govt –El-Rufai

According to Sahara Reporters, Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that some individuals paid to secure ministerial positions in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He clarified that his own challenges regarding ministerial appointment were not the reason for his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC); rather, he believes the party has strayed from its foundational principles.

In an interview, El-Rufai revealed that despite being a founding member of the APC and a close ally of President Tinubu, he was deliberately excluded from the cabinet. He dismissed claims that the National Assembly rejected his nomination due to security concerns, insisting that the president himself did not want him in the cabinet.

El-Rufai expressed disappointment over the current state of the APC, pointing out that key party structures have been inactive since Tinubu assumed office. He lamented that the party has abandoned the ideals that led to its formation, with personal interests now taking precedence over governance. According to him, the government has turned into a business enterprise where decisions and appointments are influenced by financial transactions rather than merit.

He also criticized President Tinubu’s pattern of political appointments, arguing that they were based on personal loyalty rather than national interest. He claimed that key positions were being controlled by a select group of individuals, primarily from Lagos, reinforcing his belief that the party no longer upholds fairness and justice.

Before leaving the APC, El-Rufai consulted several political figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari and other senior party members, to seek their opinions on the matter. He emphasized that his decision was driven by a commitment to the party’s original values, which he believes have been abandoned.
