CurrentReport Blog Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has firmly stated that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock” for the 2027 presidential election, backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. Speaking on Wednesday in Benin City, Okpebholo addressed the chairmen of 17 local government councils who had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized that those forming new political parties now are unfit to govern Nigeria, citing their poor leadership in their states.
According to the governor, the push for Tinubu’s re-election has already begun in Edo State, and the people are ready to support the president’s continued leadership. “There is no vacancy in 2027 in Abuja. Those forming a political party now can’t rule us,” Okpebholo said. He dismissed the prospects of other political figures seeking the presidency, noting that under their governance, states had suffered from insecurity. However, since they left office, those same states have become much safer, making them unqualified to lead Nigeria.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated that President Tinubu would win the 2027 election with a landslide victory, as his leadership has ushered Nigeria onto a path of growth and development. He highlighted Tinubu’s bold decisions, including the removal of the controversial fuel subsidy, which previous administrations avoided, as pivotal steps towards national progress.
Okpebholo charged the 17 local government chairmen to take immediate action in supporting the president’s re-election. “Go back to your various local governments and erect his billboards to drive home the message of re-electing President Tinubu,” he said, further solidifying his commitment to the APC’s goals.
The governor also praised the leadership of former Edo State Governor and current Senator Adams Oshiomhole, APC State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, and other APC members for their unwavering support. He thanked them for their sacrifices and contributions to the party’s success in Edo State.
With the 2027 election already a key focus in Edo, Governor Okpebholo’s statements reflect strong political backing for Tinubu, promising that the APC will continue its leadership and ensure Nigeria’s progress in the coming years.
