CurrentReport Blog The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has established a joint fact-finding committee to investigate the tragic killings of several hunters on March 27, 2025, in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Governor Monday Okpebholo made this announcement on Thursday while receiving a delegation from Kano State, led by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, at the Government House in Benin City.
The Kano delegation presented a detailed report on the incident, which involved the loss of sixteen lives from five local government areas of Kano State. Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to justice and transparency, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is personally invested in ensuring the matter is thoroughly investigated and resolved.
“This incident has opened our eyes, and we are ready to address key issues affecting the safety and well-being of our people,” the governor stated. “The President is not happy with what happened and wants to ensure justice is served. We have constituted a joint committee to uncover the remote causes and provide lasting solutions.”
Deputy Governor Gwarzo expressed gratitude for Governor Okpebholo’s swift and responsible response, especially his earlier visit to Kano to commiserate with the victims’ families. He emphasized the need for a transparent and accountable process in addressing the tragedy.
Both delegations later visited Uromi to engage directly with members of the Hausa community affected by the incident.
The move underscores the deep-rooted collaboration between Edo and Kano states, particularly in the areas of peace, commerce, and social cohesion.
