CurrentReport Blog Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Bassa Local Government Area following the gruesome killing of over 50 residents in the Zikke community during an early Monday morning attack.
Speaking at the palace of the Paramount Ruler in Miango on Tuesday, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the security lapses that led to the tragic event.
“I have been crying since yesterday… We failed you. Please, forgive me,” Mutfwang said, acknowledging the government’s failure to protect lives despite recent investments in security.
The attack comes just two weeks after a similar massacre in Bokkos LGA, raising fresh concerns over the state’s growing insecurity.
Accompanied by security chiefs and State Executive Council members, the governor visited the devastated community to commiserate with affected families and reaffirm the state’s commitment to restoring peace and stability.
The Paramount Ruler of Irigwe land, HRH Ronku Aka, urged the government to provide more social amenities and support for the affected areas, emphasizing the community’s need for both protection and development.
Governor Mutfwang called on locals to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely intelligence to help combat the increasing violence.
The victims of the Zikke massacre have since been laid to rest, as grieving families and residents continue to demand decisive government action to end the bloodshed.
