CurrentReport Blog A youth group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step back from active politics and embrace a more advisory role within the party.

Speaking at a press conference held in Gombe on Thursday, the group’s chairman, Jamilu Adamu, commended Atiku for his immense contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and the PDP’s legacy. Adamu described Atiku as a “respected statesman” whose experience and political wisdom remain invaluable.

The group, however, stressed the need for generational renewal in the PDP, urging the party’s leadership to provide greater space for younger members to emerge and lead efforts to rebuild and reposition the opposition party ahead of future elections.

“We believe that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s experience and wisdom can still benefit the PDP if channelled into mentoring and supporting emerging leaders,” Adamu stated.

He clarified that their message was not an attack on the former vice president but a constructive suggestion aimed at revitalizing the PDP.

The youth leader also emphasized the importance of adopting fresh perspectives and inclusive strategies to strengthen the party and make it more responsive to Nigeria’s current realities.

“We are hopeful that our message will be received in the spirit of progress and dialogue,” Adamu added, reaffirming the group’s loyalty and commitment to the PDP’s growth and unity.

This development adds to ongoing conversations within the PDP on leadership transition and the future direction of the party as it positions itself as a credible opposition in Nigeria’s political landscape.
