CurrentReport Blog Abia North Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, claiming that no Nigerian president in the last 60 years has dared to tackle the economy like Tinubu. However, Kalu highlighted the urgent need for immediate relief measures as Nigerians face economic hardship.
During a press conference at the National Assembly on Tuesday, Kalu acknowledged the unprecedented political will demonstrated by President Tinubu. He praised Tinubu’s efforts to initiate reforms but emphasized that swift action is necessary to alleviate the suffering of citizens.
“No president in the last 60 years has dared to do what President Tinubu is doing to reform the economy,” Kalu stated. “But we need to bring succour to Nigerians immediately. He has to act today, not tomorrow, because the situation is dire. No president elected by the people would want his citizens to suffer.”
The former governor of Abia State suggested that Tinubu should consider reinstating the fuel subsidy regime as a potential solution to provide immediate relief. Kalu urged the president to consult with his economic team to explore this possibility, although he clarified that he has not personally discussed the matter with Tinubu or his advisers.
“The decisions he has taken are what no president in the 60 years of the republic has been able to take,” Kalu remarked, while urging the government to act swiftly to address the worsening economic conditions.
